So...I have been bugged for years to do more sketching rather than full finished drawings. In part to become looser in my flow and style and also to help increase my speed. Those of you that know me realize that any increase in my speed would be an improvement. I have been in, what could be called, the biggest creative slump of all time. Back when I had my storefront I drew all the time. If it wasn't a giant foamcore display it was some type of Prismacolor pencil project.

I recently decided that I could not just sit and do nothing any longer so I began a journey. I invite you all to come along with me as I try to learn how to cartoon. It is freeing and much more expressive and by far the one thing I truly suck at. I am going to try and create a hybrid style of superhero / portrait / chibi kind of thing. I've done a few and they, to my surprise, didn't come out all that bad. For now I am going to be calling them Little Big Heads. They have little bodies, puffy bellies, and big heads. The end result has been anywhere from cute to disturbing because sometimes they end up as bears.

In any event I hope that this helps kickstart my desire to draw again so I can finish the many commissions I have in the dark corners of my room.

Well...it's 2017 now and the convention season is coming up. First up is the second annual SVCC at the downtown San Jose Convention Center. Last year was a big surprise and a great success to boot. This year it is going to be 3 times as big as the con spreads its wings out into the first " Festival in the Park! " celebration. Booths, food, beer, and so much more. NASA, the Tech Museum, and a canine cosplay contest are among the many things there to entertain the entire family. Inside the hall, of coarse, will be all the comics, artists, writers, tech, and cosplayers you can imagine. All of this will be happening starting April 21st - 23rd so get you some tickets!!

After that it is on to fanime 2017 also at the San Jose Convention Center. The bay areas premier anime, cosplay, gaming, convention. Full of imported items from Japan, bands, movies, cosplayers, and the ever popular artist alley. Come and join us on May 26th - 29th for all the hustle and bustle.

I look forward to seeing everybody at the shows.

Hello DA World!
Well it looks like it is time for another entry. We just finished up Fanime 2016 and it was quite a show. Met a lot of new faces and got to try out the new setup at Fanime for the first time. The progress on replacing the work in my con binders is moving along at a snails pace but at least it is finally moving. I have been trying to update my style and add a little more detail and pizazz to them. I just posted one of the new ones a few minutes ago so I hope you all like it. I may not keep it up as I update things, depends on the reaction I suppose,
I hope to open up taking commissions again soon as well. I have been shying away from them here and at shows because I have too much to complete already. I'm super slow to start with so when you toss in work, life, family, cons, and a side business it leaves very little time to draw. I am working on getting a tad more dedicated time in on the drawing front so bare with me. If you are waiting on me to finish something for you please feel free to contact me for an update.

Hope to see you all at the next show.

Upcoming Cons

Well it looks like the con season is upon us again and I am not ready, what else is new, but I am setting up anyhow. This year a few personal problems have left me less than feeling creative. I am doing my best to get on track but I have been having a fair share of difficulty. There isn't much time before Big Wow this year, April 18th and 19th, at the San Jose Convention Center and then Fanime on May 22nd - 25th at the same location. I hope I have something new to show but even if I don't I will be there to chat and say hi to anybody that stops by. At the moment I am trying to catch up on commissions that are long overdue and deliver them at the show if I can. The last few years have been kind of tough on me and I truly want to get back into the creative swing of things. A concerted effort on my part to rededicate myself to drawing is going to have to take place but I think it is time. My eyesight is becoming a bit of an issue and a new set of glasses is going to have to happen before to long. I will need to make enough to pay for those first so here's to hoping that the shows have some new blood at them this year. I wanted to take the time to say thanks to all the dedicated fans that have patiently waited for me to finish their projects.
Big Wow looks like it is going to be even bigger and better than it was last year so grab your friends and come check out the show. There is a fantastic line up of pros and a cornucopia of artists and creators in the Artist Alley to tickle the fancy of just about anyone.

Well Japan Expo 2 just ended and it seemed to go a lot smoother this year. I was skeptical about the indoor outdoor venue but I ended up liking the feel of it. It gave the show something that no other show in the area has. Being able to leave the hall, get some real food, and sit outside to enjoy your meal looked very pleasant. The addition of all the different food trucks also gave people a wide variety of food stuffs to pick from. All us con goers know how old nachos, a hotdog, or stale hamburger can be. Having chicken teriyaki, sushi, noodles, shaved ice, candy, and treats was a nice departure from the status quo. Attendance was up from last year and I saw a lot of new faces which means a fresh clientele from SFO and other North Bay cities. I have high hopes for this show next year with the plans and changes that are going to be put together for not only the artist alley but the show in general. To all my fellow artists out there in DA land. If you are local and you want a new show to do then set your sites on this one for next year. If anybody has any questions please feel free to message me and I will give you whatever info I can.
Next up is The Toy Havoc and Comic Chaos Show at the Alameda Fairgrounds, The Young California Building, in Pleasanton. It's on Saturday, September 13, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM with Early Bird entry at 8:00 AM for $13.00 dollars. It's a fun intimate show with a ton of parking and a nice size hall. it only cost $7.00 dollars for admission, at 10:00 AM, and kids under 8 are free. There will be prizes, contests, and me of coarse.
